I. guidelines for viewing dance: one of the goals of this course is to introduce you to new and alternative ways of appreciating and understanding dance. It is important to continually consider your personal biases as you view dance. With each successive viewing opportunity, you will continue to refine your skills and tools for describing, interpreting, contextualizing and analyzing dance: describe: use clear descriptive language and transmit the visual experience into writing. Why not: contextualize: put what you saw into a larger context. Use action verbs and adverbial modifiers as needed. Compare and contrast two works from the production. If the performance you saw was an evening length work, write on the entire production, focusing on contrasting sections if possible. Was any other kind of technology important: why: describe why you chose these two works to compare and contrast. Are these premieres (new works) or repertory pieces: where: describe the type of theater.
