An organism"s adaptations to its enviro are a result of evolution. Evolution= process of change that has transformed life on earth from its earliest beginnings to the diversity of organisms living today: ex. Central activities of biology are posing questions about the living world and seeking answers through scientific inquiry. We recognize life by what living things do: order, energy processing, evolutionary adaptation, growth and development, response to enviro, regulation, reproduction. Forest includes sugar maple trees, white-tailed deer: organisms: individual living things. Each individual maple tree and deer: organs and organ systems: organs consist of multiple tissues and each team of organs cooperates in larger function. Cells in leaves contain chloroplasts for photosynthesis: organelles: various functional components in a cell. The chloroplasts in a cell: molecules: chemical structure consisting of 2+ atoms. Emergent properties= properties that emerge at each level that"re absent from the preceding level. Due to arrangement and interaction of parts as complexity increases.
