The Constitution of the United States:
● 1st amendment
○ Freedom of religion, speech, the press, assembly, and petition.
● 5th amendment
○ No capital crime except when charges by grand jury; no double jeopardy; no
witness against self
■ People cannot be tried for a serious crime unless accused by a grand jury.
■ People cannot be forced to testify against themselves.
■ People cannot be tried twice for the same crime.
■ People cannot be punished without due process of law.
■ People must be paid for property taken for public use.
● 6th amendment
○ Right to speedy trial, info about accusation, help from court with lawyer.
● 13th amendment
○ Prohibits slavery
● 15th amendment
○ No denying the vote because of race or color, or because he was slave
■ Woman still can not vote
● 18th amendment
