It threatened their family"s honor, as her behavior was seen as reflecting on the honor of her family as a whole. Lorenzo: to cover their crime they told their business associates & neighbors that they sent the young man on a business trip & life returned to normal, lisabetta could then marry correctly with the honor of all preserved.
