● Many cultures find sex and sexuality to be bad

Holistic Perspective of Sexuality
● Most of sexuality occurs above the neck, in our brains
○ Emotions, excitement, desire for connection and love,
hypersensitivity to personal space
● Sex is a platform for connecting with another person
○ Hormones released during sex are related to bonding and
feelings of interpersonal connection
Sexuality with the Self
● Sexuality is a continuum that encompasses all possible
expressions
○ As opposed to clearly defined categories of acceptable or
bad or right

○ Done through self-exploration, such as self-touching and
masturbation
● Men are encouraged to explore their bodies while women are
told to keep their purity
○ Leads to problems in first sexual encounters since men
know what they want and women don’t know
