Positive mental health encompasses a subjective sense of one"s own self-worth and the worth of others; affective balance; and the capacity to thinking, perceive, and interpret adequately, as well as to cope in the face of normal adversities. Mental health promotion is concerned with promoting positive mental health and employs strategies for strengthening protective factors to enhance the social and emotional well-being and quality of life of the general population. Prevention of mental disorders is specifically concerned with reducing the incidence, prevalence, duration, and recurrence of mental disorders. Promoting mental health may reduce the incidence of mental disorders, as positive mental health is protective against mental disorders, and interventions to prevent the onset of mental disorders can promote mental health. Immediate ecological systems encompass a person"s microsystems were a person"s immediate experience and personal interactions occur (such as family and peer relationships) Basic capabilities are the innate or genetic potential of an individual for optimal neurocognitive and socio-emotional development.
