EDUC 10 Chapter Notes - Chapter 10: External Auditor, Focus Group
Document Summary
Although qualitative and quantitative research is different each of them have their advantages and disadvantages and one is not better than the other. Educational researchers are more likely to use qualitative research in its generic sense as a methodology: natural setting. The behavior of the subjects is studied as it occurs naturally. The investigator has a direct role in the observation or interview of the subject. Process orientation: wanting to know how and why behaviors occur. Trying to reconstruct reality as the participants they are studying see it. In-depth involvement in a culture to describe naturally occurring behavior. In-depth analysis of a single experience or entity. Purpose is to obtain a detailed description and gain an understanding of the case. Focused on what is essential for the meaning of the event, episode, or interaction: grounded theory studies. Focus on what happened to individuals and why they believe it happened: critical studies.
