Television as we know it was invented and developed in the 1920s, largely by philo t. Television is on in the average american household for over eight hours a day. 2014, the average american watched four hours and 36 minutes of live television per day (down from four hours and 45 minutes two years before). The time the average adult spent watching time-shifted television, on the other hand, jumped to 31 minutes a day, up from six minutes two years before. We tend to watch more in the winter and less in the summer (when the weather is nicer and we are more likely to be out and about). Children aged 12-17 are now spending the least time as they are increasingly engaged with digital video.
