Communication : process by which we use symbols, signs, and behaviors to exchange. Failure in communication can lead to feelings of isolation, frustration, and anger information. Functional perspective of communication examines how our communication helps (or doesn"t help) us accomplish our goals in personal, group, organizational, public, or technologically mediated situations. Goal-oriented communication serves one or more primary functions such as expressing affiliation, managing relationships, or influencing others. Affiliation : feeling of connectedness you have with others. Show how you want to be associated w someone by expressing liking, love, or respect; or dislike, hatred, or disrespect. Can be expressed verbally and nonverbally, and through face-to-face or mediated channels. Relationships : the interconnections between two or more people. Involve interdependence : what we do affects others and what others do affect us. Kinds of verbal and nonverbal relational work you do in managing relationships may signal their health or demise.
