Brown"s stages of commerce: mutual necessities, mutual wants, mutual knowledge, no mutual prejudice, mutual humanity, conveniences, population increase, coined money, arts and sciences, equal laws, plenty and happiness. First and middle stages beneficial, last stage is bad. Society can be prematurely pushed into decay by government actions that favor the interests of the privileged.
