Adjectives that can be used to describe characteristics of people. The set of psychological traits and mechanisms within the individual that are organized and relatively enduring and that influence his or her interactions with, and adaptions to, the intra-psychic, physical, and social environment. Characteristics that describe ways in which people are different from each other. Saying someone is shy means she is different from those that are out- going. Also similar to each other, shy people are like other people who are shy. Describe the average tendencies of a person. Mechanism refers to the processes of personality. Personality is something a person carried with him or herself over time and from one situation to the next. We feel we will have the same traits consistently. Psych traits and mechanisms for a given person are not simply random. Rather, organized bc they are linked to one another in a coherent fashion. Decision rules activate which needs are activated.
