I think winthrop did just because anne was exiled and she did leave, so politically speaking, he won: but i do think she gave a very good argument and i"m sure she never thought he won. It also suggests that they did not take kindly to people doing anything that undermined their authority in the community: women weren"t allowed to do anything. It was very much a patriarchal society: hutchinson was a very progressive, strong-willed person. I think in a way she could be considered an early feminist, but i don"t think her motive was to herself and her relationship with her god just to comply with the ideals and doctrine of her.
