POLS 125 Chapter Notes - Chapter 16: Party Politics in America: Social Forces
Document Summary
Political parties affect their environment in many ways; they: promote public policies, recruit people into politics and government, affect public attitudes. Because of the above and more, democracy is unworkable without parties. The parties are the only ones who can mobilize large numbers against organized minorities that holds the political resources like corporations. We can parties would rob the political system of an effective means of governing because without strong parties it is harder to mobilize majorities and pass legislation: this could result in even worse gridlock. Analysts have considered ways to expand the party"s role: a lot of respondents in surveys would like parties to be more active in helping people deal with the government. Per this, party organizations could create mobile units that it would allow the party organization to perform constituent service (1) this would give people a greater connection to the parties and potentially more positive interactions with them.
