-The subject is illness. Darkness on the right forces the eye to see the yellow dead in
the room. Content includes the sick and jaundiced family praying over dead
member; room is small and family is cornered into death; pillow is angelic like a halo
over the dead symbolic of how life is better when you're dead; hand on bed head
shows family is moving towards the same fate; heads bowed solemnly. Material is
oil on canvas which was a popular medium of the period. Intention is to depicts
anxiety of death amongst all classes; strokes are fluid and undulating showing the
movement to death and intentionally affects the viewer making them feel ill too
which is an aspect of the symbolist movement.
