BIOL123 Lecture Notes - Lecture 29: Bipolar Neuron, Pseudounipolar Neuron, Cerebral Cortex
• Bipolar neuron:
o One dendrite and one axon
o Sensory neurons involved in audition, vision, smell and the sense of balance
o
• Unipolar or pseudounipolar neurons:
o Single process that bifurcates to the perikaryon, with the longer branch extending
to a peripheral ending and the other toward the CNS
o Neurons involved in somatic sensations
o
• Anaxonic neuron:
o Many dendrites but no true axon
o Not able to produce action potential but affect the acitivity of other neurons
o Cerebral cortex
