Involves creating a division of labour for task performance and coordinating results to achieve a common purpose. Given a clear mission, core values, objectives and strategy, organising begins the process of implementation by clarifying jobs and working relationships: organisation structure. The way in which various parts of an organisation are formally arranged. A focus on processes, efficiency and organisational architecture at the micro and macro level. Rationality a course of action is rational if it optimises that which is important, so structural thinking values rational decisions. Optimality - organisations set objectives with outcomes that they wish to optimise. An optimal solution usually maximises profit, but not always - optimality for the salvation. Army a large public company are different; you might sacrifice short term profits to optimise longer term viability, say through increased competitive advantage.
