PHTY100 Lecture Notes - Lecture 10: Erector Spinae Muscles, Levator Scapulae Muscle, Splenius Muscles
Document Summary
10. 8 identify and/or describe the basic arrangement, nerve supply, actions and functions of the muscles of the neck: Muscles moving the neck attach to the cervical column. Muscles moving the head attach to the skull. Extensors of the head and neck: produce extension when the muscles work bilaterally. Erector spinae: iliocostalis cervicus, longissimus cervicus, longissimus capitus, spinales capitis. Action: extends the head on the neck, stabilises atlanto-occipital joint during movements. Attach: sp c2 to lateral mass of c1. Action: not an extensor, turns the face to the same side (rotational movement) Flexors of the head and neck: produce flexion when the muscles work bilaterally: longus coli. Origin: upper thoracic vertebrae to upper cervical vertebrae bodies to tp, tp to bodies, bodies to bodies. Attach: upper cervical tp to anterior base of skull. Attach: mastoid process of temporal bone, medial third of clavicle and manubrium of sternum.
