Reason for admission/ presenting problems: chris is a 55 year old who was brought in by ambulance and admitted to bankstown hospital 4 weeks ago after slow onset of left sided weakness associated with slurred speech. On presentation the patient was hypertensive at 230 systolic with upgoing plantar reflexes and 1/5 power on the left side of the body. Partial anterior circulation infarct (paci) involving right mca. Ct scan of head showed a large right fronto-parietal hypodensity consistent with an infarct in the anterior division of the right mca. On initial assessment chris had: (l) sided hemiparesis (l) sided hemianaesthesia: dysarthria, limited cognition and poor engagement. Chris received conservative medical care in the stroke unit. The atrial fibrillation was treated and the hypertension was brought under control with multiple medications. Care was provided by physiotherapists, occupational therapists and speech pathologists. Other active medical problems have been migraine headache and depression.
