Document Summary

Pavlov : russian physiologist, studied physiology of digestion in dogs/animals, salivary response. Have they learnt that the person that brings the food is a reliable source of food so is that why they are salivating: psychic reflex (psychic secretions) Higher order conditioning: not only with reflexes, conditioned responses can in turn be conditioned (pavlov"s student frolov, allows us to account for more complex behaviour. To measure learning, you must show change: compare responding to cs before and after pairings, what to compare, most obvious: do they respond to cs (interspersed test trials) (before vs after) Latency of response (how soon after cs they do respond?) Intensity of the response (when possible; e. g. salivation) Little albert: explain how we develop fears or phobias that other people might find neutral. Fear conditioning: rats: conditioned freezing, response to threat they freeze, measure the extent of their behaviour with pavlov conditioning by how long their freeze in response to the conditioned stimulus.
