Blending inheritance
The belief that offspring carry a blend of the characteristics of both parents i.e. that
inheritance is a process of averaging the phenotype of both parents- DONESNT WORK
Particulate Inheritance
Gregor Mendel- 1822-1884 
1865- two talk at a scientific meeting: experiments in Plant Hybridization
Never published 
Garden pea: height, color, shape of flower, stem length, seed color, seed shape 
Ripped out one of the sexual parts so that he could control pollination and make sure
there was no self pollination 
Observations:
The phenotype is determined by heritable factors 
Alternate forms of genes are responsible for variation in inherited characteristics 
For each character on organism inherits 2 genes, one from each parent 
If two alternative forms of a gene are present, one is fully expressed (dominant) and the
other completely hidden (recessive) 
The two genes for each character segregate during gamete production
Phenotype 3:1 
Particular inheritance
Recessive disorders:
Albinism is recessive because diploidy provides ‘backup’
Individuals with one non functional copy of tyrosinase gene can still produce
melanin because their second gene copy is functional 
Beta thalassemia 
If protein for the alpha change exhibits damage it is no longer able to carry
oxygen and carbon dioxide in the normal way- metabolism slows down
lots of things hey cant do
Recombination and crossing over are able to get rid of disorders
Dominant disorders:
Less likely to pop up as everyone that has the gene will have the disease so people are
more likely to die and not pass on their gene 
Dwarfism 
Huntington disease- shown when people are 40 years old, bigger problem now,
increased life expectancy
In complete dominance and Co dominance:
In complete dominance: 
Incomplete dominance is a form of intermediate inheritance in which one allele for a
specific trait is not completely expressed over its paired allele. This results in a
third phenotype in which the expressed physical trait is a combination of the
phenotypes of both alleles
