DOH253 Lecture Notes - Lecture 6: Dentin, Cementum, Dental Lamina
Document Summary
Any part of bone with growth must have cartilage as it gives 3d template that is later going to be replaced by bone. Endochondral ossification with cartilage and with no cartilage is membranous ossification. Thus since maxilla is simple bones, membranous. Maxillar proper, starts at 40 days in maxillary sinus region. Mesoderm starts to convert to bone via ossification. Processes that form the central part of maxilla. Medial and lateral alveolar plates (initially vertical then as tongue moves it goes horizontal). It guides the formation of the body of the mandible at its lateral aspect. Forms around meckel"s cartilage (main in arch 1) No cartilage inside, converts mesenchymal tissue into bone. Starts where the inferior alveolar nerve (main) gives off mental branch. Symphysis menti fuses at 1st postnatally (after birth) two mandibular halves fuse to give one single bone called the mandible: ramus of mandible. Needed for fast growth not for shape (simple) Ramus growth until 21 years (remains active)
