Document Summary
So we can understand how we might work with someone of a particular developmental stage. So we can understand when things go wrong with development. "science of human development seeks to understand how and why people - all kinds of people, everywhere - change and remain the same over time" (berger, 2008) Changes in one are likely to cause change in others. The extent to which development is influenced by nature and/or nurture. Involves the degree to which early traits and characteristics persist through life or change. The degree to which development involves either gradual, cumulative change; or distinct stages. Epigenetics: influence of environment on genetics of our ancestors. Nature contributes strongly to some characteristics e. g. physical size, appearance. More complex traits are influenced by environmental factors as well as genes e. g. intelligence, personality. Change can refer to the acquisition or the loss of a behaviour or function. Continuous: refers to a gradual alteration of behaviour.
