Assess wound
Perform hand hygiene

Complications of wound healing
1. Infection- 3-7 days
2. Haemorrhage- first 24 hours - until they start mobilising
3. Dehiscence- popping open and things coming out
Prevent complications
Adequate water
Adequate oxygen
Delaying removal of staples (healing process is affected and slow)
Wound assessment
Observe-
1. Stage of wound
2. Colour- Yellow- slough
Black – nitrotic
3. Odour
4. Size
5. Shape
