Document Summary

Learning outcomes: describe what is meant by inquiry based approach to science. What can teachers do to help primary students develop their scientific literacy: model the dynamic nature of science knowledge, relate what learning at school to everyday life. Integrate science with other learning areas: focus on quality (depth) of understanding rather than quantity, develop content knowledge alongside inquiry skills. Learning science by inquiry involves the students : asking questions, exploring and investigating, making observations, manipulating materials, gaining experiences, talking with each other. Before we ask students to give us explanations or we tell them the science concept they must learn. The science curriculum has a strand focused entirely on science inquiry skills (sis). The purpose of this strand is to develop the skills related to scientific literacy: evaluating claims. Investigating ideas: solving problems, drawing valid conclusions, developing evidence based arguments.
