Everything psychological is also biological - Crash course psychology
Neurons are the basic neurons of our nervous system
Nervous system comprised of 3 different types:
Sensory – activated by sensory input / gather and transmit info
Motor – connect to muscle glands and organs and transmit transmit commands from the
spinal cord and smooth muscles.
Interneuron – connect spinal motor and sensory neurons, as well as transferring signals
output in received by the interneuron
^ STUDY WILL BE ON EXAM
Myelin Sheaths: protects and increases the speed of transmission – provides a coating as
well
Multiple sclerosis – lacking myelin sheaths
TERMS AND EXAMPLES
Allele: alternative forms of the same gene
Example: is the gene for blossom colour in many species of flower – a single gene controls
the colour of the petals but there may be several different versions (allele) of the gene
Dominant Allele: the form of the gene that control the expression of a trait. When a gene
pair contains two dominant alleles or when it contains both a dominant and a recessive
allele, the trait regulated by the dominant gene will be expressed
Example: The allele for brown eyes is dominant. You only need one copy of the allele to
have brown eyes
Geotype: a orgais’s geetic ake up
Example: If someone has blood type A, they must have at least one copy of the A allele, but
they could have two copies. Their genotype is either AA o AO
