Document Summary
Week 7: health throughout the life course: the importance of the early life developmental phase throughout the lifespan. Slow growth and poor emotional support raise the lifetime risk of poor physical health and reduce physical, cognitive and emotional functioning in adulthood: core concepts relating to the life course. The life course is a sequence of socially defined events and roles that the individual enacts over time. We can understand a person or a group"s current state of health or illness in terms of the experiences they"ve had earlier in their lives. The transitions from one stage to another, the circumstances in which those transitions occur, their trajectories or pathways over time, particular life events and events that cause turning points that change the person or group"s trajectory. Events that occur in one stage of life have an impact on health in later stages and we can easily demonstrate this if we look at something like education.
