Document Summary

The relatively permanent change in behaviour/knowledge which results from practice or experience. Adaptive health related behaviours that can be acquired through learning including healthy eating behaviour, exercise behaviour, social behaviours and sun protective behaviours. Maladaptive health related behaviours that can be acquired through learning include substance abuse behaviours (drug use, alcohol abuse), psychological changes that can lead to illness (tension headaches), avoidance behaviours (swallowing pills, needles). A learning process in which an original neural stimulus, by repetitive pairing with a stimulus that normally produces some response, come to produce a similar or even identical response. A classic example is ivan pavlov"s study of digestion in dogs (cid:894)(cid:1005)(cid:1012)(cid:1013)(cid:1004)"s(cid:895) > dogs began to salivate before meet was presented, when they heard footsteps in corridor. > respond with salivation to stimulus other than meet. >before conditioning present meat = salivation, present bell = no salivation. > after conditioning present bell & meat together, present bell alone = salivation.
