O"shaughnessy is credited with introduction of medical use of cannabis. 1842-1900 over 100 reports published on therapeutic qualities of cannabis. Brought recreational use of cannabis to the west; it had only previously been used to make jeans. Primarily using cannabis for range of medical problems including opium addiction. Lost it"s popularly due to varying thc content (hard to find precise dose) and because it was insoluble in water (couldn"t be injected)
