Week 4, 8 and 12 quizzes are assessed- 15% each. Weekly quizzes available- with feedback provided after a week. Tuesdays at 12pm 4wr, room 334 (w5c) Use online resources: self-test quizzes, exercises, course notes. Reasoning is something we do all the time when we make decisions, form beliefs, present arguments and listen to arguments we"re presented with. Break down statements for bias- evaluate reliability. Analysis and scepticism- comparing sources to find the most reliable truth. Critical thinking is about careful thinking , and being careful of what you say/believe, rather than being focused on criticising others. This unit is focused on developing skills that will help us reason better, for example: Identifying, critiquing and avoiding common errors in reasoning. And a disposition to make the effort to reason well. Examples of poor reasoning and why we make these mistakes: Behind one is a car, and behind the other two is a terrible prize.
