How much effort are they putting in. Recent research on what parents, and students want from school reports. De nition-reporting is the communication of information regarding student progress. Reporting needs to be linked with the key outcomes that have been emphasised in our teaching and assessment. To produce a useful report we also need to be clear about what we want to report, why we want to report it and to whom we want to report. The way we are required to report to parents today is a response to a number of recent studies into effective reporting: Commissioned by the nsw government at the request of the nsw teachers federation. Investigated the impact of outcomes based education on teachers/schools. The impact different approaches to recording and reporting have had on the workload of primary teachers. The extent to which such approaches acknowledge the primacy of teachers professional judgement. The features and characteristics of best practice models.
