Increased milk maintained by exogenous bovine somatotropin (bst) Short acting, not active if fed bst so must be injected. Sy(cid:374)thesis of (cid:373)ilk stops if it is(cid:374)"t re(cid:373)o(cid:448)ed. Small amount of milk in cisterns but most in alveoli in lumen and streak canal only opens under pressure so reflex is needed. Oxytocin peaks within 2 mins of stimulation of teats then declines to basal in 10 mins.
