Document Summary

Start with a partial agonist and gradually add more full agonist. Add [partial agonist] that elicits its maximum possible response. Adding more full agonist (squares) doesn"t produce a large increase in response because partial agonist is a competitive inhibitor. Hsf page 1 agonist is a competitive inhibitor. Adding full agonist only causes dramatic increase when it reaches conc that can produce same response as partial agonist. Increasing conc of partial agonist shifts curve to the right, but full agonist still eventually outcompetes partial agonist. Ec50: conc of drug that produces 50% of its max response. So ec50 of blue circles is about -7 with response at 0. 13. A partial agonist that mimics pleasurable feeling of heroin/morphine. However not rewarding enough to cause a dependence. Since only partial it doesn"t suppress respiratory system so less dangerous than full agonists. Can also act as partial antagonist to full agonist if patient relapses.
