Document Summary

Falciform ligament divides left and right lobe (bigger). Not smooth, concaved due to impression of other viscera. Gall bladder also there and hilum (portal hepatis) Green is hepatic duct: bile secreted into there. Portal vein: brings blood into liver from git for metabolism. Separated by sagittal fissures and transverse portal hepatis. A horizontal line across the hepatic triad forms two additional lobes. These are still part of the anatomical right lobe. Gall bladder stores and concentrates bile produced by liver. Feeds into common bile duct and goes to major duodenum papilla into duodenum. A sphincter (odd) surrounds the very distal end of the common bile duct and main pancreatic duct. Bile secreted through hepatic duct --> common bile duct --> blocked by sphincter --> back into gall bladder-->after fatty meal --> enzymes cause sphincter to relax and gall bladder contracts allowing bile through. If blocks cystic duct you get inflammation and severe abdominal pain.
