It is exogenous (comes from outside the body) It is important in measuring filtration: every 4 inulin per minute end up in nephron from glomerulus: inulin concentration is 4/100 ml while gfr is 100 ml/min, 0% inulin is reabsorbed, 100% inulin is excreted. Inulin clearance = 100 ml/min which is indicative to rate of reabsorption by observing 4 molecules of inulin appearing in the blood stream per minute.
