Australian government has actively increased access, awareness and education regarding mental health nation-wide (as described in previous lecture). Total percentage of perceived need has gone down i. e. more people feel like their needs are being met. I. e. spending is up but mental illness isn"t going down (1) the possible impacts of inequity in delivery of key programs. Note: kessler10 (k10) is a questionnaire constructed to identify the mental health score of an individual (focussed on depression/anxiety) However, there is much greater access and use of psychological services in a uent areas . 81/1000 in western suburbs, 277/1000 in eastern suburbs despite the lower rates of mental health problems there are many people that are not being supported/treated. Psychiatric services are signi cantly less used in disadvantaged areas, compared to gp services (across all socio-economic areas) (2) possible adverse impacts of medicalisation of mental health problems.
