Chemical signals act as neurotransmitters which directly impact the postsynaptic neuron in fast/local signals, chemical signals can also act as neuromodulators which modulate the function/sensitivity of pre & post-synaptic neurons in slower & more global signals. Effect on cells (brain + body), behaviour, lifestyle and society. Lifestyle altered motivation due to addictions, increased confidence leading to new jobs or friendships. Society unfair competition or unwanted behaviour. Very complex drug effects > no rule of nature that a drug could exist with no positive or no negative effects -> no rule of nature that for every positive effect there will be a corresponding negative effect. Genetics -> each brain has a unique makeup. Drugs & food -> effecting synthesis and function. All of the above impact the functioning of the chemical cocktail. All of the above also define who we are and what we think, feel and perceive.
