Connell"s original view of masculinity: connell"s main focus in the 1970s was on class structure in australian politics, culture and history, during the 1970s, connell conducted an interview with 100 14-15 years old, their parents and teachers. Although the research project was originally focusing on class differences on educational outcome but it extended to gender because during the process of interviewing parents and teachers, the difference between gender has become prominent. The founding of the research project influence the first publication of connell"s research on gender: the concept of hegemonic masculinity was first used to refer to particular behaviour that the society consider as masculinity in general. Men became manlier to maintain their social position due to the fear of women taking over their roles.
