Modern organisations use four types of information systems that vary according to the scope of the organisational unit. Personal information systems are information systems used by a single individual. Procedures are simple and not documented or formalised in any way. It is easy to manage change to personal information systems because you will be the sole user of the new system. If new procedures are required, only you need to adapt. If there are problems, you can solve them yourself. A workgroup information system is an information system that facilitates the activities of a group of people. E. g. at a physi(cid:272)ia(cid:374)s(cid:859) part(cid:374)ership, do(cid:272)tors, (cid:374)urses a(cid:374)d staff use i(cid:374)for(cid:373)atio(cid:374) syste(cid:373)s to (cid:373)a(cid:374)age patie(cid:374)t(cid:859)s data. Workgroup information systems that support a particular department are sometimes called departmental information systems. Others support a particular business function and are called functional information systems. The procedures for using them must be understood by all members of the group.
