The removal of substantial unfreedoms, it is argued here, is constitutive of development. Alternatives to gdp: the genuine progress indicator: the gpi and other indicators like it might not be perfect, but they can help policy- makers do a better job of balancing the costs and benefits of economic development. What is sustainable development: sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. Sustainable development goals: called for out of the rio+20 un sustainable development meeting 2012, build on the millennium development goals, sdgs are a set of internationally recognized goals which will guide the global development agenda from 2015-2030. The social sector: organisations working in/for the public interest, social inclusions, social (rather than purely economic) objectives; social economy, encompasses spectrum of orgs, stakeholder driven approach.
