Module 1 - Food and Health (PART 2)
• Provide a brief summary of the dietary pattern that you think is most
beneficial for overall health using evidence to justify your answer.
As there is no particular dietary pattern that will give the best health outcome, I
believe that a mixed or balanced diet is best which includes all food stuffs.
However, it should be appropriate quantities in regards to health benefits.
1. Watch the videos 'Eat for Real Change' by Joanna McMillan and 'What's Wrong with
what we Eat' by Mark Bittman before completing the following activities:
• Make a list of the foods you typically consumed when you were a child and
also list the factors that influenced your food choices as a child.
Bread – school sandwiches
Chips and other packaged foods – school lunches
Iceblocks – after school snacks
• List some foods you currently consume now as an adult and also list the
factors that influence your current food choices.
Meat and veg – lite n easy, trying to lose weight
Eggs – as above
Milk – as above
Nuts – as a snack
• In the table below, write the foods and/or drinks you would choose on each of
these occasions. Also write down the reason for choosing each food and then
list some of the reasons why the foods might be different on each occasion.
