"How do you think poverty can impact the family system, and what aspects of development do you
think are at risk?"
Consider things such as the children's development, effective parenting, the economical welfare of
the family, housing and living environments, education, mental health, family structure and
relationships, stigmatisation and access to services.
It can restrict a family’s financial status and they may not be able to afford the basics such as
food, water or basic living supplies.
Poor education opportunities for children if their families are struggling
Low standard of living
Could live in a run down, not liveable house or place but that’s all they can afford?
Can strain the family’s relationship, if the parents are trying to work long hours to earn the
bare minimum
Children might not see parents as much
Burden on the family
Could live in a remote location or run down suburb with less access to services such as
healthy fruit and veg or job opportunities.
Lack of sleep, conc impacts on health
Doesn improve cognitive bility
Children could grow up more mature compared to others but also embarrassed about their
living standard or families financial status

Do you think that globally eliminating poverty could be possible? Is there enough money in
the world?
