Uses a radio signal to give a direct signal from the teacher"s transmitter to the student hearing aids. The student"s receiver is usually a small shoe attached to the hearing aid. Pitch - stimulated by where the spiral ganglion cells fire. Loudness - how many spiral ganglion cells fire. Diagnosis: severe to profound hearing loss, auditory neuropathy. Spectrum disorder (ansd) with poor speech and language development and poor speech perception results. Cochlea is the only organ in the body that is human sized at birth. Pre-curled electrode array is inserted under the skin into the cochlear with an outer sound processor. Programs built in where they can monitor the response of the nerve before completing surgery (eabr/nrt) Magnets are now removable for those with medical. Maps are created based on threshold (t levels) and comfort levels, indicating change over time. Sound processors can hold multiple maps for different situations. Nucleus fitting software allows recipient to do their own maps.
