Proprioception part 2: lecture 5: ruffini endings: Joint receptors are sensitive (give awareness); not good with slow speeds but good with fast speeds. Few joint receptors (in total) signal mid-range fixed or moving positions located in the medial or lateral parts of the joint capsule. Most joint receptors (i. e. high stimulation) signalling occurs in extension by those in the posterior part of the joint capsule; or flexion by those in the anterior part of the joint capsule. Metatarsophalangeal joint of the fourth toe: used anaesthetic to turn off sensory activity, can(cid:495)t detect anything, then inject inflammation after & move finger (increasing sensitivity of joint receptors, evidence for joint receptors, shows joint receptors work. Merkel cells, ruffini endings, meissner"s touch, pressure, texture, vibration corpuscles, pacinian corpuscles. Muscle spindles muscle length and velocity, vibration, joint position.
