Document Summary

Emg reading tells us when muscles turn on and off (motor control) Analysing frequency content can indicate the fatigue of a muscle. Amplitude of emg indicates activation of a muscle. Amplitude of emg: shows activation of a muscle. Rms and mean emg gives the average over a period of time. Mean emg = average of absolute value of all data. Gives an emg measurement at a specific point in time. Raw emg > rectified emg > filter emg (linear envelope) Amplitude determined by: number of mus recruited, amount of fibres in each mu, resistance between fibres and electrodes (muscle > electrode or skin > electrode, distance between the electrodes, noise. Normalise the emg signal to remove extraneous factors/noise and find the important factors (recruitment) Is expressed as a percentage of the emg during standard contraction. Only performed during different comparisons of measurements (not on same muscle on same day or no change of electrode position)
