EXSS2029 Lecture Notes - Lecture 10: Stretch Reflex, Elastic Energy, Angular Velocity

67 views2 pages

Document Summary

For the body to produce fast motion, there is a preferred order of motion of the segments. Optimises the stretch shortening cycle (ssc), conservation of momentum, muscle force velocity relationship, summation of segmental velocities. Eccentrically loading muscle prior to activity will help rom and velocity during performance. Loading the muscle while it is lengthening (can take a higher load, produce a higher force, when moving) Stretch reflex, elastic energy storage (recoil), force velocity curve, impulse-momentum relationship, metabolic activation. Pre-activation/pre-stretch > stretch > shortening (eg. walking) Example 1: back swing phase of a golf swing/punch. = pre stretch loading and increasing the arc of motion. Example 2: inertial loading (segment inertial lag) cracking a whip. = proximal to distal sequencing > increasing inertia of each segment throughout the motion. > backswing phase preparing the body to achieve powerful transition phase (pre-stretch) End effector arc length is close to maximal (eg. shoulder/hip rotation/arm abduction)
