GOVT2228 Lecture Notes - Lecture 10: Intensive Farming, Neoliberalism, Earth Liberation Front
Document Summary
Intensive farming and its impact on the environment has not been addressed on the cop21 one agenda. As membership organisations and an attack on everyday life, bringing unsustainable agriculture to the political discussion table will hurt funding prospects of major environmental organisations. Environmental organisations proposing a victim vs perpetrator plot-line risks disturbing their public support base by addressing intensive farming. The significant impact of meat production on other related issues such as fish overproduction, fossil fuels, deforestation, ghg emissions, suggest that it needs to be addressed for effective climate management. The increasing demand for dairy based products within decreasing arable land for sustainable production and grazing indicates that this masquerade cannot be continued. Going up against individuals with massive legal resources and the killing of activists in brazil is not conducive to environmental activism against intensive farming. Using plant based sources can reduce consumption of meat allowing for a reduction in genetically modified food and land for forests.
