Inner ear is fully developed by start of third trimester. Hearing: foetuses respond to sounds have preference for mother"s voice, newborns are already sensitive to patterns and organised noise. Motor skills: gross motor skills = large movements of limbs etc, fine motor skills = smaller movements using fingers, toes and facial muscles, develops in similar way to foetus. Reaches for dangling things, inspects fingers, moves things towards mouth. Hold two things, transfer objects from hand to hand. Pulls strings to obtain objects, grasps with finger and thumbs. Pincer grip: requirements for motor skills, stimulus in physical environment. Interaction: drive and motivation difference forms of locomotion, personality, genuinely delayed motor skills may indicate a problem. 6: by 12 months should be saying 1-2 words = can understand up to 50 words but can"t say it, general rule is that by 2 a child should be able to say two word phrases.
