How does the child go from no knowledge at birth, to structured representations: he rejects there are genes for knowledge. Intelligence in action: child interacts with the environment by manipulating objects. Preconceptual 2-4 years: thinking dominated by child becomes more capable of symbolic functioning, language and development occurs. Intuitive 4-7 years: child still unduly influenced by own perception of environment. Concrete operation 7-11 years: logical reasoning can only be applied to objects that are real or can be seen. Individual can think logically about potential events or abstract ideas. Stage independent processes: human experiences are always dynamically changing through equilibration, there is an underlying principle of organisation which is part of the function of intelligence.
