82 views8 pages

Document Summary

Learning outcomes: descrine the structure and function of skeletal muscle, describe the mechanism of contractility in muscle, discuss the generation of force, describe the length tension relationship. White muscle= not good for carrying oxygen. Epimysium is connective tissue that wraps around the muscle for support- links the tendon to the muscle. Order is epimysium , perimysium, endomysium (inside) Collagen provides tensil etrength and can elongated. Muscle cell= myofibres, they are huge, about 2-300 nuclei. Wrapped into fascicle then wrapped into muscle. Machines that contract rod- myofribrils- arrangement of proteins in the cell- big enough to be seen with a light microscope connective tissue separate them stripes= groups of proteins layered in muscle. Myofibrils have lots of broken up sarcomeres, muscle units> contractile apparatus> motor proteins burn up atp and actively pull. Endoplasmic reticulum stores calcium so is important in muscles, called sarcoplasmic reticulum. Z line- dense / lots of molecules/ dark patch/ proteins involved in tension.
