Power and politics: power is a reality of organisational life. Power and political behaviour are natural processes in any group or organisation. If used wisely, power can produce effectiveness and motivation. Why do we care about power: power influences our emotions, social behaviour, social attention and social cognition. Power and social attention: power makes people more sensitive to provide rewards to other, power can be used to persuade and guide others to achieve their personal goals. Power and social cognition: high power individuals will be more prone to stereotyping others. They are less likely to understand other accurately as individuals as they make judgements about them: the(cid:455) judge othe(cid:396)s" attitudes, i(cid:374)te(cid:396)ests a(cid:374)d positio(cid:374)s less a(cid:272)(cid:272)u(cid:396)atel(cid:455). Power and social behaviour: elevated power increases the likelihood of approach-related behaviour. Hence, they tend to deviate from group norms, and more feely behave as themselves: low-power individuals are more likely to abide by social norms.
